The Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) is keen on showcasing the tourist potential of Visakhapatnam to people in other parts of the country.
“We will develop Visakhapatnam as beach tourism, wedding, leisure and wellness tourism destination in the country. The Chief Minister has already invited the Lu Lu group to set up a convention centre and malls,” ADTOI vice- president Rajat Sawhney and general secretary Chetan Gupta told The Hindu on the sidelines of the two-day national convention, which concluded on Saturday.
“Our association is the first to target Andhra Pradesh in general and Visakhapatnam in particular. Now, two more associations have announced their plans to hold tourism conventions in Visakhapatnam in future. We have plans to promote Vizag as a major beach destination like Goa,” Mr. Rajat said.
“I have been visiting Vizag for the last few years. There is tremendous potential for the promotion of water sports like scuba diving in view of the long coastline. Dinner cruises can be planned from Vizag to Bheemunipatnam, and beach parties and casinos will see a huge rush from tourists. People from landlocked places in the north do not have their advantage and they would be delighted to visit Vizag,” said Mr. Chetan.
