Visakhapatnam: Here is good news for tourists traveling by the Vistadome coach to Araku by the Visakhapatnam – Kirandul – Visakhapatnam 58501/02 passenger. The railways, perhaps, have for the first time reduced the fare on the Vistadome coach, which was launched in April last.
The see-through glass coach offers a panoramic view of the hills, valleys and an exhilarating experience to tourists as it passes through the tunnels. Right on the inaugural day, Araku MLA K. Sarveswara Rao had sought making the fare affordable, which was prominently reported in The Hindu.
Subsequently, passengers had also been demanding reduction of the fare.
Divisional Railway Manager Mukul Saran Mathur pursued the matter with the Railway Board and they had finally given the nod for reduction of ₹200, if a passenger opts for the two-way trip to Araku or ₹100, if they take only the return trip to Visakhapatnam Junction.
The two-way fare, which is ₹1,330, has been reduced to ₹1,130. But if a passenger wants to take the return trip alone, it has been fixed at ₹ 565.
But there is no reduction in fare if the passenger wants to take the outward trip alone: he has to pay the full fare of ₹665.
“We have taken a video in the section and plan to play it to announce in the Vistadome coach to give advance information to passengers about the approaching valleys and tunnels. We are awaiting the approval of the coach manufacturers in this regard,” Senior Divisional Commercial Manager G. Suneel Kumar told The Hindu when contacted on Wednesday.
