State BJP president and Visakhapatnam MP K. Haribabu on Monday said the Centre would take an appropriate decision on formation of a new railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam.
He told reporters on the sidelines of a workshop on the role of independent directors in public sector enterprises conducted by the Ministry of Heavy Industries that they had already fulfilled 85% of promises made in the A.P. Reorganisation Act. “Forming a railway zone is a political decision. It will be taken at an appropriate time,” he remarked when asked whether the zone, a pre-poll promise made by the BJP and its ally Telugu Desam Party, would materialize soon. He said sanctioning a new zone was under active consideration of the government.
On Special Category Status, he said they had come out with a special package in consultation with the State government.
