VISAKHAPATNAM: Its a great moe from GVMC and state Government for Tourism in Vizg. The much-awaited hovercraft project to be completed by October with the state government already paying an advance amount of Rs 60 lakh for bringing in four hovercrafts from Russia.
Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) authorities have agreed to give 3,700 sq yard of land opposite Hotel Sea Pearl on Beach Road. Hyderabad-based Hoverdock will be taking this project . The state government will officially release a GO regarding the project in a couple of days.AP Tourism Development Corporation executive director R Sreeramulu Naidu said that it will be a major turn for A.P tourism as well for City.
The project was proposed in last year and it was signed between Hoverdock representatives and the tourism department at the CII Summit in 2016. Since then, the stake holders including GVMC, Vuda, Indian Navy, Vizag Port Trust as well as private players submitted several DPRs.
“Vizag will be the first city in the country to have such a tourism facility. The boat needs no jetty and is completely safe when compare to the tourism boats. At present, the Indian Coast Guard wings use such boats and now we are introducing them for domestic purposes,” said D Chaitanya Varma, proprietor of Hoverdock.
As per the plan, two five-seater hovercrafts, one seven-seater and one nine-seater hovercraft will be introduced in phase-I. Once the project is thrown open to the public, passengers will be charged anything between Rs 300 and Rs 350 per head for a 15-minute to 30-minute ride on the sea.
