Visakhapatnam: The proposal by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (Vuda) to develop Mudasarlova Park into a multi-theme-based amusement park is being expedited. After two failed bids by private players, Raj Expedith Architects recently presented their concept plan.
They were invited for a meeting with the AP Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation Limited vice-chairman and managing director N Chandramohan Reddy and Vuda vice-chairman P Basanth Kumar in Amaravati about a week ago. Subsequently, the firm representatives were asked to come up with detailed estimates of the project by September 15.
Other than developing it into a mere leisure park, Vuda wants to give a new look to the Mudasarlova Park with theme-based entertainment. Some of the preliminary proposals include an igloo village, miniature golf court, jungle book tree houses, and a meditation zone.
Mudasarlova Water Works and Park, constructed way back in 1902, is one of the oldest existing parks in the region. The reservoir located next to the park is one of the drinking water sources of the city.
Spread over 20 acres, the park also has a golf course in its premises. Once a popular picnic spot, the park has lost its sheen and is now subject to utter neglect. Located along the BRTS Road on the way to Simhachalam from Hanumanthawaka, the park’s tourism potential has never been tapped into and was always out of the city’s tourism package.
