A world-class IT city on the lines of Cyberabad of Hyderabad will be developed at Kapuluppada on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam.
The first phase of the layout taken up in 158 acres would be completed by March, 2018, IT Minister Nara Lokesh, who was here to inaugurate Tech Hub at the new building of Tech Mahindra, said on Thursday.
A senior official of IT Department told The Hindu that once the layout was developed they would allot individuals plots as well as create towers for plug and play facilities. Necessary infrastructure would be created by roping in BOT operators and realty firms, he said.
The official said they would prefer SMEs to allotment of plots/built-up space as part of thrust being accorded to promotion of IT by the State government.
Out of 1,750 acres in Survey No. 314 which was earlier allotted to Unitech Limited of Gurugram for developing knowledge city, the area for plotting is restricted to 400 to 450 acres due to hills all around. VUDA has been mandated to finalise the layout.
AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, which allotted the land to Unitech Limited through an agreement signed in July, 2008, had cancelled it in September 2015 for non-implementation of the project and violation of allotment terms.
